January 22, 2004, brings in the Chinese Year of the Monkey 4071. Years of the Monkey include: 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, and 2004. We invite you to join the celebration.

This year is extra special as it will be the 35th annual event for the Sien Lok Society and as such we are putting on an extra effort. We're pulling out all the stops to bring in the Year of the Monkey. Enjoy a delectable traditional 10 course Chinese Banquet dinner with friends and family while being entertained by an impressive list of local talents all night! Hear about the entertaining character of the legendary Monkey King who has enthralled generations with stories of his adventures for over 500 years. Take a complimentary photo of the evening home with you to commemorate the festivities. As well we have fabulous opportunities to win all sorts of prizes all inspired by the upcoming Monkey year! Our very own Audrey Kwan and Mike Lee have consented to MC the event just one more time. And as usual our local politicians come for the fun as well.

It will be a singular experience to welcome in the Year of the Monkey! As always this event sells out quickly...before the tickets are even printed. There are very limited seats left.

6:00 p.m.~ Cocktails
7:15 p.m.~ 10 Course Traditional Chinese Banquet Dinner
Entertainment (Lion dance, pull ticket sales with large selection of prizes, Chinese Oratorical performance, martial arts presentation, wandering Monkey King, free photobooth & assorted local talent)
Dancing to follow with live band "Fine Line"

February 8, 2003 - WHAT A PARTY!!!

The Sien Lok Society held its 34th Annual Chinese New Year's Banquet and Dance on Saturday, February 8. Over 630 people helped bring in the Year of The Ram at the Regency Palace Seafood Restaurant. Several dignitaries, members of the press, and Sien Lok directors and members were in attendance. Gracing the evening were: Premier Ralph Klein; Minister of Health & Wellness, Gary Mar; MP, Art Hanger; MLAs John Lord, Wayne Cao, and Harvey Cenaiko; Deputy Mayor Druh Farrell; Aldermen Diane Colley-Urquhart and Craig Burrows; former Mayor Al Duer, along with several members of the Chinese Consulate of the People's Republic of China.

The Masters of Ceremony for the evening, Michael Lee and Audrey Kwan, did a fabulous job from the start of the Lion's Dance through the 10 delicious dishes of food to the announcement of the band, Fine Line.

Volunteers are key to the success of the banquet. Although the organizing committee is ten members strong, the additional help of some twenty-three volunteers really pull the evening together. This year digital photos were taken and the results are truly outstanding. Next year, even better technology to speed up the process.

The silent auction and raffle ticket sales did very well for the Society--a very nice addition to Sien Lok's fundraising efforts.

If you would like to join in the festivities next year to celebrate the Year of The Monkey, mark your calendar for Saturday, January 31, 2004. Hope to see you next year.
