2021 in Review2021 was Amaranthe's year to shine - along with the top hit of the year, they also have two more on our chart at #15 and #35. Rainover returned with another huge hit. Last year they finished in 2nd place for the year; this year, in 3rd place. This year we welcome 9 new bands to our year-end chart, with 4 of those in the top 10; and our list of songs comes from 14 countries: 22 from the US, 9 from Canada, 5 from Finland, 4 each from Sweden and The Netherlands; 3 from Germany, Brazil, Bulgaria and Switzerland; 2 from Russia and Chile; and 1 from Norway, New Zealand and Spain.Sixteen bands have more than 1 hit on our chart, including 3 each from Amaranthe (#1, 15, & 35), Unleash the Archers (#8, 33 & 49), Diamante (#19, 40 & 44), Sevi (#11, 24 & 38), Semblant (#16, 41 & 46), and while Halestorm has none on the chart, frontwoman Lzzy Hale is in 3 collaborations at #9, 18 & 45. Ten bands have 2: Eva Under Fire (#2, #10), Black Rose Maze (#5, #26), Chaos Magic (#6, #22); Evanescence (#9, #25); Lindsey Stirling (#9, #50); Lee Aaron (#13, #29), The Pretty Reckless (#30, #32), Apocalyptica (#27, #45); Autumn (#34, #39), and Ad Infinitum (#17, #47). Furthermore, besides her appearance in Within Temptation at #23, Sharon den Adel is also part of #9; similarly, besides her two apeparances with Ad Infinitum, Melissa Bonny is also part of #12. |
Chart facts: 14 artists on this year's top 50 were also on last year's chart: Amaranthe, Eva Under Fire, Rainover, Chaos Magic, Jorn, Unleash the Archers, Within Temptation. Lindsey Stirling, Nightwish, Semblant, Imperial Age, Evanescence, Avril Lavigne, and Diamante. The most significantly "new" thing about 2021 is a single occurrence that has not happened until now (and may well never happen again!), and prompted the creation of a new symbol on our legend: Eva Under Fire's "Heroin(e)," already a hit when it fell off the chart after reaching #1 for 4 weeks, came back on the chart and climbed back into the top 10, making 2 separate runs on the chart. We're calling this a Phoenix song. Other minutiae:
